Terms of Use

Effective Date: September 4, 2026

Welcome to Girls in Research (“GIR,” “we,” “our,” or “us”). These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of girlsinresearchglobal.org and the resources, information, and services made available through the website.

By using this website, you agree to these Terms of Use.

1. Educational Purpose

Girls in Research provides educational resources, research-related information, community programming, and access to information about academic and professional development opportunities.

Information on the GIR website is provided for general educational and informational purposes.

Nothing on this website constitutes legal, financial, medical, admissions, employment, or professional advice.

2. Eligibility

The GIR website and its online forms are intended for users age 13 and older.

Users under 18 should involve a parent, guardian, teacher, counselor, or other trusted adult when appropriate, particularly before providing sensitive information, traveling, paying fees, entering contracts, or participating in programs offered by third parties.

3. Third-Party Opportunities

GIR may identify, organize, summarize, or link to research programs, scholarships, competitions, internships, summer programs, courses, awards, publications, volunteer opportunities, and other opportunities offered by organizations outside GIR.

Unless specifically identified as a GIR-operated program, these opportunities are operated independently by third parties.

Girls in Research does not control third-party organizations and does not guarantee:

  • acceptance or eligibility;

  • availability;

  • deadlines;

  • program dates;

  • cost;

  • financial aid;

  • program quality;

  • safety;

  • selection criteria;

  • accuracy of third-party information; or

  • continued operation of a program.

Although GIR makes reasonable efforts to review information before adding opportunities to its resources, program details may change.

Users are responsible for confirming current requirements, deadlines, costs, eligibility criteria, safety information, and other details directly with the organization operating an opportunity before applying or participating.

The inclusion of an organization or opportunity on the GIR website does not necessarily constitute endorsement, sponsorship, partnership, or affiliation.

4. Third-Party Links

The website may contain links to external websites.

Girls in Research does not control and is not responsible for the content, security, availability, privacy practices, terms, or actions of third-party websites.

Users access third-party websites at their own discretion.

5. GIR Programs and Events

Some opportunities, events, resources, or initiatives displayed on the website may be operated directly by Girls in Research.

Additional eligibility rules, application requirements, consent forms, event rules, or program-specific terms may apply to those activities.

Where program-specific terms conflict with these general Terms of Use, the program-specific requirements will control for that activity.

6. Appropriate Use

You agree not to use the GIR website to:

  • interfere with the operation or security of the website;

  • attempt to gain unauthorized access to accounts, systems, or data;

  • submit false or misleading information;

  • impersonate another person or organization;

  • distribute malicious code;

  • scrape or systematically extract content in violation of applicable law or GIR's rights;

  • harass or harm other users; or

  • use GIR resources for unlawful purposes.

7. Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise stated, original GIR branding, graphics, written resources, website content, databases, and other materials created by Girls in Research are owned by or licensed to GIR and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

You may use publicly available GIR educational materials for personal, noncommercial educational purposes unless otherwise stated.

You may not reproduce, sell, republish, distribute, or commercially exploit GIR content in a manner that suggests ownership, affiliation, or endorsement without permission.

Third-party names, logos, program information, images, and trademarks remain the property of their respective owners.

8. User Submissions

If you submit content to GIR, such as an application, story, research submission, testimonial, photograph, or other material, GIR will handle that submission according to the purpose for which it was collected and applicable policies.

Submission of material does not automatically give GIR permission to publicly publish your name, image, research, or personal information unless appropriate permission has been obtained.

Additional release or consent terms may apply to particular programs.

9. No Guarantee of Results

Girls in Research aims to help students discover and navigate research opportunities and resources.

However, GIR cannot guarantee that use of the website or participation in GIR programming will result in:

  • admission to a program;

  • publication;

  • research placement;

  • mentorship;

  • scholarships;

  • awards;

  • internships;

  • college admission;

  • employment; or

  • any particular academic or professional result.

Individual outcomes depend on many factors outside GIR's control.

10. Website Availability and Accuracy

We try to keep GIR's website useful and accurate, but information may occasionally be incomplete, outdated, or unavailable.

We may update, remove, reorganize, or discontinue website content or features without notice.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Girls in Research and those working on its behalf will not be liable for losses or damages arising solely from reliance on third-party opportunity information, third-party websites, or circumstances outside GIR's reasonable control.

Nothing in these Terms excludes any right or liability that cannot legally be excluded.
